Lame Duck

For me, personally, I think that I have found it difficult to read the words that Jesus speaks in today's Gospel, when He calls Satan 'the ruler of this world'. I always wanted to believe that Jesus was the ruler of this world - what gives? As I searched for answers, I learned that Jesus had reduced Satan to a lame duck.
From a political perspective, a lame duck is one who knows he has lost his office, who won't continue in his position. Many spend this time trying to 'leave their mark'. Satan is no different. Jesus has destroyed Satan's plan through unyielding and unconditional love and forgiveness. His Resurrection actually laid a path for humanity to heaven. As He did with everything, Jesus didn't just make it happen, He led us. He led us in death and He led us in Resurrected life.
Satan's desire is to prevent mankind from participating in the eternal love of God. Jesus ensures that Satan's plan will not come to fruition. Moreover, Jesus establishes that He will return and reclaim His Kingdom forever. Satan will be completely removed from office. He is reduced to trying to leave his mark - ON YOU.
Each day, commit yourself to the Real King and His mission here. Express confidence in Jesus' plan and His promise that He will return for you to take him to himself. This confidence is how we answer the attempts of the devil to cling on to his role.
