My brother...

ree

When we have those great close friends who seem so much like us that they are practically family, we might call them our 'brother from another mother.' Jesus invites us to consider a similar relationship - a brother from the same mother. The key to this relationship is: hears the Word of God and acts on it.

Elsewhere, Jesus talks about those who say they will do what the father asks, but don't do it. These do not do the 'will of the father', so they are not brothers. Jesus, on the other hand always does the will of the Father - if we want to be His brother, we know what to do.

We have a great example as well in the blessed mother - she enables the salvation of the world by saying 'let it be done to me according to thy word.' No wonder Jesus gives her to us as mother, hoping that we will be brothers of the same mother. This pursuit has to be relentless on our part. It is far too easy for us to forget about the pursuit, to lose focus on the voice of the father.

To even consider this most difficult of pursuits, we have to understand that failure WILL be part of the picture. Jesus knows this and is ready to forgive. He just wants us to stay at it and know how important it is to hear the word of God and do it. My brother...
