Earlier in his journey of growing faith in Jesus as the Christ, Peter confirms that he will not leave Jesus by saying “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." And now after the Lord has been resurrected from the dead, and the Holy Spirit has fully descended upon Peter - he lives like he believes those words.
I'll be honest, I think often about eternal life and how it would change my life each and every day if I believed it fully. Yeah, I said 'if'. It's not that I don't believe it, it's just that I still catch myself acting like I don't believe it - so I must not believe it fully - yet.
Fortunately, we have to opportunity to observe our lives and continue to grow in our belief. One way to do this is to take stock of each day with a daily examen in the evening and consider the ways that you acted in concrete belief of eternity and God's promises for your life. Consider where you allowed yourself to be immersed in worry and anxiety and ask yourself what you were trusting or following. Don't beat yourself up, that's not the point. Consider how your could react differently, how trust in eternity might look differently - that's all.
Keep doing it and you will grow in the way you show your belief and increase your grasp on eternal life. One builds on the other - kind of a beautiful gift from Our Lord.
