Often times, as Christians, we get a sense of what Jesus says, and we build our belief on that. The Father has sent me, God loves you, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, love God with all your heart, your mind, your soul and your strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. All of these are beautiful and central teachings of Jesus. We would do well to follow them. But Jesus also says: ‘if you love me, you will follow my commandments’ and ‘make disciples…teaching them all that I have commanded you.”
All of Jesus words matter, and in this weekends Gospel, we get these words: “No one comes to the Father except through me.” and “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Often, in mixed religious groups, I get the question: People who don’t know Jesus, but live a good life can still go to heaven, right? I answer in two ways: 1 – God can save whomever He desires to save – so it is certainly possible and 2 – We shouldn’t keep Jesus to ourselves. If we believe He is the way, we shouldn’t try to figure out if they can get to heaven without Him – we should make an introduction.
Heaven has plenty of rooms and Jesus is willing to prepare them. He is looking for us to help Him to fill them. Jesus is the Truth about the Way to eternal Life. Spread the word.
way | truth | life is a program that I present twice per month at Sts. Martha and Mary where we examine what Jesus has taught us as way, truth, life through the lens of the Catholic Faith. We have food, great music, lively teaching, conversation and open Q & A - all with the intent of sharing the beauty and genius of the idea that Jesus is the Truth about the Way to eternal Life. Participants typically include those interested in Christianity, lively Christians, lifelong 'cradle Catholics' and everyone in between. Join us for Mass first, or just come for way | truth | life. Stop wondering and get your questions answered honestly and lovingly. This month:
May 10 at St. Catherine 9:15 Mass, 10:15 way | truth | life.
May 24 at St. Catherine 9:15 Mass, 10:15 way | truth | life.
