What say ye?

Today's Gospel has always been a pivotal one, but was made more obvious by a rainbow haired man who attended sporting events throughout the 1990's wearing a shirt or holding a sign that said: John 3:16. That's all. While this man, Rollen Stewart was certainly a bit eccentric, he also appeared to be responding to the challenge contained within it (or actually the one following it.)
After the very famous part of the Gospel which reads "God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life." the second paragraph says: "And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world,
but people preferred darkness to light." Wow, this is a bit of a harsh statement, and a little bit too true. In it is the challenge issued to each person who has been introduced to Jesus: What say you? What would your verdict be? Jesus is either the light of the world sent to save it, or he is not. Before you answer with your lips, ask yourself: if I met someone new, how long would it take for them to know that I believe that Jesus is the light? Would it take until Sunday came around and I went to church? Would that even be convincing? Do I attend like someone who sees Him as the light of the world? Would they see it in other aspects of my life? Would they see me reading scripture so that I might know Him and His teachings better?
Now is a harder question: Would they see me doing the things that Jesus commanded us to do? Making disciples, caring for the sick, hungry, naked, imprisoned? Announcing the Kingdom, being witnesses, forming disciples? These things will not happen on their own. Jesus, is the only begotten Son. There is only one of Him, and He has chosen to share His mission with us. We become ONE BODY so that we can continue His work in all these ways. So what say ye?
