All inclusive

ree

Perhaps the most luxurious of vacations is the 'all-inclusive' resort. Food, drinks, activities, massages - you get it all - included in the price. In today's Gospel, the king hosts an all-inclusive wedding. It includes the food, the festivities and even the garments. It is all-inclusive in another important way as well.

God presents us with the unimaginable opportunity to enjoy an eternal wedding feast. Having just experienced a wedding in my family, I can just imagine the idea of having all of the celebration, and beauty and excitement with none of the toil or cost - a pretty great scenario. As if all of this is not enough, He offers this even if we are not 'related' to the bride or groom. We only need accept His invitation. But even at this, there is still one more thing that needs to be included.

The Master confronts someone invited from the highways and byways who is inappropriately dressed. This can seem a little cold and uncaring (didn't He know the guy was just invited in off the street?). What we probably don't understand culturally is that the norm was for the family to provide a garment for each of the guests. So the guest apparently refused this garment. This mirrors God offering us forgiveness and we somehow refuse it. God literally offers every thing we need to end up in heaven - truly all inclusive.
