Have you seen?

"I have shown you many good works from my Father."
In my house, I am famous for 'looking with my man eyes'. The usual result is me saying something like 'honey, have you seen...' So often we look past things as they are because of what we expect to see. We can become completely blind to things - look in a drawer three times only to see my wife reach in and say 'is this it?' This happens if we already expect God NOT to be acting in our lives. We look past the many obvious ways in which He is working in our everyday. We think we are the ultimate creator of things: furniture, houses, cars, smart phones. But really, God supplies all of the materials, including our intellect and desire to work.
In the Jewish tradition, they pray the berekah throughout the day. It goes something like this: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, it is through your goodness that we have this: day, meal, place to sleep, job, opportunity, family, etc. etc. Hold a simple pencil in your hand. How long would it take you to make it completely from scratch? Find graphite, build tools out of metal to shape the wood, what is an eraser even made from? Without the combined intellect and ingenuity of all who came before us (also gift from God), we might spend many many years attempting it.
Join me in praying: "Lord don't let me miss any way in which you are at work in my life." Perhaps we can also pray for God to inspire us to do some good works from Him as well.
