Love Affair

When I read today's section from the Gospel of John, it can be easy for me to get caught up in the spaghetti of it all. He repeats in different ways several different phrases about Love and Glory. These can wash over us as a redundant restating and repeating of a theme, but remember this: He is the Word of God Incarnate - there is nothing happenstance.

Jesus keeps repeating in many and varied ways so that we might all hear it in a way that reaches our heart. He wants so desperately for us to know His plans for love for all of us and the glory He has planned for us, that He will just keep saying it and saying it until we get it.

If you have ever had the urge to get your message across to someone, you know what it is like to keep saying in one way after another until you see the light in their eyes that they get your meaning. From the structure and extent of this passage, I infer that the apostles weren't getting it right away. The ever patient, ever loving savior just kept restating. Love 4 times, one 4 times, glory twice and some version of Him and God and us as one: 13 times. If we pay even a little intention, we will get a sense of His love affair with us.
