The difference

Apparently 50 days can make all the difference. In our reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we see Peter, the fisherman turned fisher-of-men boldly proclaiming Christ and also truth-telling to some people who were directly involved in the killing of His Master.
These are the same people that He hid from, and denied his Master to just 50 days earlier. This 50 days must have been something, right? Well strap in, then. Over the next 50 days we are going to explore this journey and the things that make the difference in Peter and the other disciples, but I have to set fair expectations. The difference was not made by a teaching, or a crafty reflection. It was a realization in their very soul about the TRUTH. The truth of who Jesus was, of who God the Father was, the truth of who the Holy Spirit was - and what this meant for the truth of who THEY WERE called to be.
We have to be willing to be someone different in 50 days. Peter was willing because he hated who he had become (he wept bitterly) and could only go up. We might not be there, but we all have room to grow. Peter's situation left him not only open to becoming someone new, but desperate for it. Perhaps our Lenten journey taught us some things about ourselves, our desires, our ability (or inability) to reach others with the Good News.
I don't want to set goals (this is a human thing, and proper in its own right) I want us to acknowledge to God that we need to grow, and that we desire to grow in the way He will lead us. We will stare deeply into the mystery of God's mission here on earth as brought to us by Jesus. Hopefully we will see ourselves in it, perhaps only our future selves - that is beautiful and it was what Peter saw.
Are you ready to experience THE DIFFERENCE?
